While up with the baby late at night, I have found I can read a little poetry. Reading in Worthy is the Lamb: Puritan Poetry in Honor of the Savior<\/a>\"\"I came across some more really good poems. I have previously posted Prayer for Ministers’\u009d by John Newton<\/a>. Here is another great one from Newton directed to pastors once more. Don’t miss that the second verse is referring to the pastor. I hope this encourages and challenges you as it has me.<\/p>\n

“We Are Ambassadors for Christ”
\nJohn Newton<\/p>\n

Thy message by the preacher seal,
\nAnd let Thy power be known,
\nThat every sinner here may feel
\nThe word is not his own.<\/p>\n

Among the foremost of the throng,
\nWho dare Thee to Thy face,
\nHe in rebellion stood too long,
\nAnd fought against Thy grace.<\/p>\n

But grace prevailed, he mercy found,
\nAnd now by Thee is sent,
\nTo tell his fellow rebels round,
\nAnd call them to repent.<\/p>\n

In Jesus, God is reconciled,
\nThe worst may be forgiven;
\nCome and He’ll own you as a child,
\nAnd make you heirs of heaven.<\/p>\n

Oh, may the Word of gospel truth
\nYour chief desires engage!
\nAnd Jesus be your Guide in youth,
\nYour joy in hoary age.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the year that’s now begun
\nMay prove to some their last;
\nThe sands of life may soon be run,
\nThe day of grace be past.<\/p>\n

Think, if you slight this embassy,
\nAnd will not warning take
\nWhen Jesus in the clouds you see,
\nWhat answer will you make?<\/p>\n
