{"id":1522,"date":"2010-09-23T11:41:57","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T15:41:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2013-06-17T16:31:24","modified_gmt":"2013-06-17T20:31:24","slug":"leland-ryken%e2%80%99s-forthcoming-book-on-the-kjv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/?p=1522","title":{"rendered":"Leland Ryken&#8217;s Forthcoming Book on the KJV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Ryken KJV\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/images.gnpcb.org\/products\/9781433513886.jpg\" width=\"166\" height=\"257\" \/>I have had the privilege of reading a pre-publication copy of Leland Ryken&#8217;s forthcoming book, <em>The Legacy of the King James Bible: Celebrating 400 Years of the Most Influential English Translation<\/em>, which is due out from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossway.org\/product\/9781433513886\">Crossway in January<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Too many people my age and younger will simply yawn at the 400<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the KJV next year.\u00a0 This is both sad and bad.\u00a0 Negative reactions often arise due to interactions with those who argue that the KJV is the only proper English translation.\u00a0 This is unfortunate.\u00a0 In spite of the misuse of the KJV by some, this translation has had an amazingly wide and deep impact for good on the world. The KJV is a good example of an instance where the church led the culture rather than chasing it.\u00a0 We do well to consider and appreciate what God has done and Ryken&#8217;s book will help you to do just that.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ryken&#8217;s book is divided into four parts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The King James Bible in Its Own Day<\/p>\n<p>The King James Bible in History<\/p>\n<p>The King James Bible as a Literary Masterpiece<\/p>\n<p>The Literary Influence of the King James Bible<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In these sections Ryken presents the setting in which the KJV was produced, traces its impact in history, language, culture and religion, and discusses its literary merits.\u00a0 Even though I talk about some of these things in my classes I was amazed to learn so much more about the impact of the KJV.\u00c2\u00a0 In addition Ryken&#8217;s forthright style made it an enjoyable read.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ryken will be presenting some of the information in this book when he participates in our upcoming conference &#8220;KJV400: Legacy &amp; Impact&#8221;\u009d, September 15-17, 2011 here at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uu.edu\">Union University.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I encourage you to get the book and consider attending this conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have had the privilege of reading a pre-publication copy of Leland Ryken&#8217;s forthcoming book, The Legacy of the King James Bible: Celebrating 400 Years of the Most Influential English Translation, which is due out from Crossway in January.
