{"id":1597,"date":"2010-12-16T00:43:47","date_gmt":"2010-12-16T04:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/?p=1597"},"modified":"2013-06-17T12:28:00","modified_gmt":"2013-06-17T16:28:00","slug":"keep-your-greek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/?p=1597","title":{"rendered":"Keep Your Greek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/keep-your-greek.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1598\" title=\"keep your greek\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/rayvanneste.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/keep-your-greek.jpg\" width=\"107\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0310329078?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thechildrshou-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0310329078\">Keep Your Greek: Strategies for Busy People<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"feqppbaenvvvbzygxulq\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=thechildrshou-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0310329078\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/em>, Constantine Campbell<br \/>\n(Zondervan, 2010) pb., 90 pp<br \/>\n$9.99<\/p>\n<p>This little book is the best thing I know of for encouragement and advice for how to maintain and increase your ability to read and use Greek.\u00a0 I almost can&#8217;t say too much good about this book- and it would make a great gift!<\/p>\n<p>One of the real challenges, of course, in preparation for ministry is, having taken Greek, to maintain Greek information and skills in the daily grind of ministry.\u00a0 In brief fashion Campbell covers key advice I have heard previously and more points I had not heard or thought of before.\u00a0 I really wish I had received this book 20 years ago and now hope all my students will get it.\u00a0 Campbell&#8217;s key points are:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 Ready every day<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Burn your interlinear<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Use software tools wisely (don&#8217;t jump to help too quickly)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Make vocabulary your friend<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Practice your parsing<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Read fast<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Read slow (so vary your reading)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Use your senses (sight, hearing, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>Of course a simple list does not capture the power of the book.\u00a0 One great strength is Campbell&#8217;s tone and approach.\u00a0 He is very realistic.\u00a0 It would be easy to suggest more work than anyone could do.\u00a0 Campbell&#8217;s ideas though obviously emerge from the real life of his own practice and of encouraging others.\u00a0 Also, his breezy, encouraging tone is helpful.\u00a0 He will give the firm exhortation, but he typically comes across as a chief encourager.<\/p>\n<p>Brevity is also a strength here.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t get bogged down in this book.\u00a0 I loved reading the book and came away from it deeply encouraged and motivated.<\/p>\n<p>This is great content in the right tone, at the right size and right price.\u00a0 It is the best thing around on this important topic.
