I asked David to come because he is a great example of faithful, patient ministry, holding fast to the Word and really loving his people.<\/p>\n<p>We all benefited greatly from David&#8217;s comments, and he graciously agreed to type up a summary of what he said for me to post. His ten exhortations were:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1.\u00a0 Get as much help as you can as early as you can for as long as you can.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t be naive.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Fear God more than man.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Enjoy people.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Ditch the God-family-church pie chart.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 Trust God to work through the simple preaching and teaching of his word over time.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Resist ministerial lust.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 Brace yourself for rigorous but rewarding work.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 Consider unreached areas.<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0 Keep your heart happy in the triune God and his glorious gospel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I encourage you to read the whole thing <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/Td3CxL\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently David King, pastor of Concord Baptist Church in Chattanooga, visited my pastoral ministry class and shared ten key reflections on pastoral ministry.
