Readers at my children’s books blog<\/a> will know that one of our favorite authors is Douglas Bond<\/a>. It has been a delight over the last several months to get to know Doug via email as we have prepared for his visit to Union as part of the Psalms Project<\/a>.
\nOne of the things I appreciate about Doug is his appreciation of poetry and good hymnody. He recently sent me a Thanksgiving hymn of his and gave me permission to post it. I hope you appreciate it as much as I have.<\/p>\n

We Rise and Worship<\/span><\/strong>
\n“O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).<\/p>\n

We rise and worship you our Lord
\nWith grateful hearts for grace outpoured,
\nFor you are good-O taste and see!-
\nGreat God of mercy rich and free!<\/p>\n

Electing love from God on high!
\nIn gratitude I wonder why
\nThis Sovereign Lord-O taste and see!-
\nIn love decreed to rescue me?<\/p>\n

Your Son obeyed the Law for me,
\nThen died my death upon the tree.
\nO Jesus Christ, I taste and see,
\nAnd marvel that you purchased me!<\/p>\n

In might, your Spirit drew me in,
\nMy quickened heart from death to win.
\nO Holy Spirit-taste and see!-
\nFrom death to life you’ve set me free!<\/p>\n

With thankful praise our hearts we give,
\nAnd grateful now we serve and live.
\nO Trinity, we taste and see
\nYour glorious grace so full and free!<\/p>\n
