I encountered Horatius Bonar<\/a> years ago while reading about Robert Murray McCheyne and, then, by reading his book, Words to Winners of Souls<\/em>. His work has ministered to me in many ways. In his hymns he has a wonderful way of proclaiming the gospel in poetic form. My poem of the week this week is a beautiful example.<\/p>\n

\u201cI Hear the Words of Love\u201d powerfully reminds us that our hope, our security, our peace rests in the steadfastness of God and not in our own vacillating feelings or thoughts. What an important and glorious truth! And, what a beautiful way to refer to the gospel- \u201cwords of love.\u201d After singing this a week ago at church, it has been in my mind ever since.<\/p>\n

I Hear the Words of Love<\/strong><\/p>\n

I hear the words of love,
\nI gaze upon the blood,
\nI see the mighty sacrifice,
\nAnd I have peace with God.<\/p>\n

\u2019Tis everlasting peace,
\nSure as Jehovah\u2019s Name;
\n\u2019Tis stable as His steadfast throne,
\nFor evermore the same.<\/p>\n

The clouds may go and come,
\nAnd storms may sweep my sky;
\nThis blood-sealed friendship changes not,
\nThe cross is ever nigh.<\/p>\n

I change\u2014He changes not;
\nThe Christ can never die;
\nHis love, not mine, the resting-place;
\nHis truth, not mine, the tie.<\/p>\n

My love is oftimes low,
\nMy joy still ebbs and flows;
\nBut peace with Him remains the same,
\nNo change Jehovah knows.<\/p>\n
