If you do not already read Justin Wainscott’s blog, Theology in Verse<\/a>, I encourage you to do so. He often posts theologically rich and powerfully emotive poems, some of his own and some from others. Today he posted the following poem which I particularly appreciated. The meter is 8.6.8.6 I believe, so it could be sung to “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing,”\u009d “There is a Fountain,”\u009d or any other tune in that meter.<\/p>\n

Christ’s Atoning Wounds<\/strong>
\nM. Justin Wainscott, \u00a9 2009<\/span><\/p>\n

That sacred stream which ever flows,
\nFlows from the Savior’s wounds,
\nDoes in the souls of saints compose
\nSweet, Christ-exalting tunes.<\/p>\n

So let the saints in chorus flood
\nThis place with songs of praise;
\nAnd sing of Christ’s redeeming blood,
\nAnd marvel at his grace.<\/p>\n

The precious wounds of Christ above –
\nHis hands, his feet, his side –
\nStand as a witness to his love
\nFor us, his ransomed bride.<\/p>\n

Those wounds which paid our sinful debt
\nRemove all grounds for pride;
\nFor God’s requirements all were met
\nWhen Christ our Savior died.<\/p>\n

So let us boast in him alone,
\nAnd in the wounds he bears;
\nSince he who sits on heaven’s throne
\nThose sacred scars still wears.<\/p>\n

And when before that throne we stand,
\nAnd on our Savior gaze;
\nWe’ll truly come to understand,
