\n“Bedtime With My Boys”
\nOne of my favorite times is bedtime with my boys,
\nWhen we turn aside from the day’s busyness and noise.
\nWe linger then together to read, talk and ponder
\nOver the Bible, stories, the day and wherever our minds might wander.
\nIn this time more than any other of the day
\nLittle hearts and minds open up, and I long to hear what they have to say
\nOf joys and fear, wonders and dreams
\nOf the way that life to each of them seems.
\nI see which of my lessons have sunk in well
\nAnd what views of life are beginning to gel.
\nErrors and almost truths oft expressed,
\nCan here be gently corrected and shaped to what’s best.
\nTruths and proper conclusions are stated as well,
\nCausing my soul to rejoice and my chest to swell.
\nOh, what joy can be sweeter than from one’s offspring to hear,
\nFree, unprompted affirmation of truths you hold dear,
\nAssertions of warm-hearted orthodoxy
\nAspirations of courage and nobility
\nLonging a good and godly man to be.<\/p>\n

Yes, bedtime with my boys is a time I hold dear,
\nMore and more precious with each passing year.
\nLord, bless our discussions which go on each night
\nThat well in the future they may grant my boys light
\nTo walk in the path and keep to the straight way
\nAnd may they linger with their boys at bedtime someday.<\/p>\n
