I have not read much of the poetry of Robert Burns because of the little know about his life. However, one need not condone the actions of another to recognize when he speaks truth. This poem, written after staying over night with a pastor’s family is a wonderful family prayer.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>O Thou dread Power, who reign’st above,
\nI know thou wilt me hear,
\nWhen for this scene of peace and love,
\nI make this prayer sincere.<\/p>\n
\nLong, long be pleas’d to spare;
\nTo bless this little filial flock,
\nAnd show what good men are.<\/p>\n
\nWith tender hopes and fears,
\nO bless her with a mother’s joys,
\nBut spare a mother’s tears!<\/p>\n
\nIn manhood’s dawning blush,
\nBless him, Thou God of love and truth,
\nUp to a parent’s wish.<\/p>\n
\nWith earnest tears I pray-
\nThou know’st the snares on ev’ry hand,
\nGuide Thou their steps alway.<\/p>\n
\nO’er Life’s rough ocean driven,
