A Morning Prayer

Reading and praying Psalm 90 recently, verses 14, 16-17 particularly caught me as expressing so much of what I want to pray for myself and my family. For the last little while I have made it a regular part of my morning prayer.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!

It is helpful each morning to pray for myself, my wife & my children to be satisfied in the love of God and that being thus satisfied we might rejoice and be glad this day. No doubt many challenges will arise this day, but if we are mindful of God’s great love for us we can rejoice and be glad no matter what comes. Then, I want to recognize the work of God around me. I don’t want to be so busy and spiritually dull that I fail to notice and appreciate clear evidences of God at work. And I want my children to see God at work. I want them to see his “glorious power” not only in stories of the past but in the present, in our life and the lives of those around us. Surely this is one key step in them being in awe of God, loving God and coming to saving faith in God. Then I yearn for the favor of God to be upon us and for him to establish the work of our hands.

This Psalm has been very beneficial to me and has increased in richness as I have prayed it regularly.
